Bennett and Wiesner show how entanglement can double a qubit's message

Nov 16, 1992

Charles Bennett and Stephen Wiesner propose superdense coding: with an entangled pair shared in advance, sending one qubit can communicate two ordinary bits. The receiver decodes the message by measuring both particles together.

Why it matters

It established another concrete use for entanglement as a resource for communication, alongside the later proposal for quantum teleportation.
