An ion-trap architecture proposes moving qubits between processing zones

Jun 13, 2002

David Kielpinski, Chris Monroe and David Wineland propose an architecture that moves trapped-ion qubits between storage and interaction regions. The design aims to let many small registers perform quantum gates in parallel.

Why it matters

Separating storage and processing offers a way to scale ion computers beyond a single long chain while preserving the ability to connect qubits.
