Researchers control a superconducting circuit called the quantronium
May 3, 2002
Denis Vion and colleagues at CEA Saclay operate the quantronium, a superconducting circuit that behaves like a controllable two-level atom. Microwave pulses manipulate its quantum state, and a separate pulsed circuit reads it out.
Why it matters
Combining coherent control and readout in an electrical circuit strengthens the case for superconducting hardware as a quantum-computing platform.
