Researchers demonstrate a conditional operation on two superconducting qubits

Researchers at NEC and RIKEN demonstrate an operation in which one superconducting qubit controls another. It reproduces part of a controlled-NOT gate's behavior, while control of the quantum phases remains to be established.

Why it matters

Making qubits interact through logic operations is a necessary step from isolated quantum bits to a working processor.
