Two teams teleport quantum states between atoms

Teams at NIST and the University of Innsbruck independently demonstrate quantum teleportation between trapped atoms. The experiments transfer a quantum state from one atom to another, rather than moving matter.

Why it matters

Teleportation offers a way to move quantum information between parts of a computer while keeping the atoms that store it in place.
