Four entangled photons demonstrate computing through measurements

Mar 10, 2005

Philip Walther and colleagues create a four-photon entangled state and use measurements to carry out quantum logic operations and a small version of Grover's search algorithm. Their experiment demonstrates the one-way model of quantum computing.

Why it matters

Quantum computation can be driven by measurements of an entangled resource, offering an alternative to applying a sequence of logic gates.
