Bristol researchers put quantum photonic circuits on a chip

Alberto Politi and colleagues demonstrate quantum optical circuits in silica waveguides on silicon, including a controlled-NOT gate and entangled photon states. The chip guides light through components that previously required larger optical setups.

Why it matters

Integrated optics offers a route to smaller and more stable photonic quantum processors.
