Researchers store quantum information in a phosphorus nucleus in silicon
Mar 13, 2008
John Morton and colleagues transfer an electron's quantum state to a phosphorus nucleus inside silicon and retrieve it, with transfer fidelities up to 90% each way. The nuclear memory's quantum coherence lasts more than a second at 5.5 kelvin.
Why it matters
Moving information between an electron for processing and a longer-lived nucleus for storage offers a route to quantum memory in silicon.
