A key-distribution proposal removes the need to trust detectors

Hoi-Kwong Lo, Marcos Curty and Bing Qi propose measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution. Within its security model, the scheme closes detector side channels using standard optical components; it is not fully device-independent.

Why it matters

Removing detector trust addresses a major gap between ideal quantum cryptographic protocols and vulnerable physical implementations.
