Google and NASA launch a quantum AI lab built around a D-Wave machine
May 16, 2013
Google announces the Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab, hosted at NASA's Ames Research Center, to study how quantum computing might advance machine learning. It uses a D-Wave quantum computer leased by the Universities Space Research Association (USRA), which shares time on it with outside researchers.
Why it matters
It was Google's first major quantum computing effort. In 2014 the same Quantum AI team added its own hardware group, led by John Martinis.
