Trapped ions demonstrate fault-tolerant control of an encoded qubit
Sep 24, 2020
Researchers use 13 trapped-ion qubits to prepare, measure and manipulate a logical qubit with circuits designed to limit error spreading. Error correction is evaluated afterward; the experiment does not maintain a continuously stabilized logical memory.
Why it matters
It tests whether fault-tolerant circuit design improves encoded operations under the noise of an actual quantum device.
