Researchers move entangled atoms between quantum gate operations

Dec 7, 2021

Dolev Bluvstein and colleagues use optical tweezers to move entangled neutral atoms in two dimensions between layers of quantum gates. The processor can change which qubits interact during a circuit while preserving coherence.

Why it matters

Moving qubits during computation provides flexible connections for algorithms and error-correction schemes without a fixed grid of neighboring interactions.
