Google suppresses one type of error as a repetition code grows
Feb 11, 2021
Google researchers demonstrate that larger repetition codes suppress bit-flip or phase-flip errors exponentially on superconducting qubits. Each code protects against one type of error, so this is not yet full protection of arbitrary quantum information.
Why it matters
Scaling a restricted error-correcting code tests a core requirement for the more demanding surface-code memories that follow.
