Honeywell repeatedly corrects a logical qubit's errors in real time
Jul 15, 2021
Honeywell researchers repeatedly measure errors in an encoded qubit and use a real-time decoder to choose corrections, applied through software tracking or physical gates. The trapped-ion experiment preserves coherence through repeated correction rounds.
Why it matters
Correcting errors during a computation, while keeping quantum information intact, is a necessary step toward reliable logical processors.
