Researchers prove and test a quantum advantage in learning from experiments

Hsin-Yuan Huang, John Preskill, Jarrod McClean and colleagues prove that machines that store and process quantum data can learn some properties of physical systems from exponentially fewer experiments than conventional ones, and test it on up to 40 superconducting qubits.
Why it matters
It is one of the few quantum advantages that is both proven and shown on hardware, though it counts the experiments needed rather than computing time.
