MilestoneError correctionConfirmed
A binomial quantum memory outlives its best physical-qubit baseline
Nov 17, 2022
A team led by SUSTech reports repeated error correction for a qubit encoded in microwave photon-number states. Its binomial code extends stored information's lifetime by about 16% beyond the best physical-qubit encoding in the same system.
Why it matters
The result shows that a distinct way of encoding a qubit in an oscillator can make quantum information last longer than the system's best unprotected alternative.
