IBM proposes error-correcting memories with fewer physical qubits
Aug 15, 2023
IBM researchers propose a family of quantum error-correcting codes and simulate a memory protocol that needs fewer physical qubits than comparable surface-code memories. This is a theoretical design, not a demonstrated logical processor.
Why it matters
Reducing the physical qubits needed per logical qubit could make fault-tolerant hardware less costly to build.
