Atom Computing repeatedly refills a 1,225-site atom array

Jan 29, 2024

Atom Computing demonstrates iterative loading of a 1,225-site ytterbium array with 99% occupancy per site, replacing lost atoms from a replenished reservoir. This is array preparation; reloading during a coherent quantum computation remains a proposed next step.

Why it matters

Replacing lost atoms without rebuilding the whole array addresses a bottleneck for scaling neutral-atom processors and eventually running long computations.
