Google reports 1.56-fold error suppression when increasing a superconducting color code from distance three to five, plus logical gates and teleportation. Its separate magic-state preparation exceeds 99% fidelity after retaining about 75% of runs.

Why it matters

Color codes offer different trade-offs from surface codes, especially for implementing operations on protected qubits.
