NIST publishes the first post-quantum encryption standards
Aug 13, 2024
NIST releases three finalized standards, FIPS 203, 204 and 205, for encryption and digital signatures designed to resist attacks from future quantum computers, and urges system administrators to start switching to them as soon as possible.
Why it matters
They give governments and companies finished, tested replacements for the public-key encryption that a large quantum computer could break, starting the switch to post-quantum cryptography.
