Oxford reports single-qubit gate errors below one part per million
Dec 5, 2024
Oxford researchers report a minimum error of 1.5(4) in ten million per single-qubit Clifford gate, a standard test operation, using a trapped calcium ion. The result is the best point in a range of gate speeds, not the error rate of a full quantum computer.
Why it matters
Precise electronic control reduces errors in a basic quantum operation, while entangling gates and larger systems still require separate improvements.
