Amazon unveils Ocelot, a chip built on error-resistant "cat qubits"
Feb 26, 2025
AWS presents Ocelot, a chip whose "cat qubits" are built to suppress one type of error, together with a Nature paper showing a small error-corrected memory on it. Amazon says the design can cut the cost of quantum error correction by up to 90% compared with current approaches.
Why it matters
Building error resistance into the qubits themselves could reduce the number of physical qubits that error correction needs, one of the main costs of a useful quantum computer.
