IBM links two 120-qubit processors with meter-long couplers
Oct 21, 2026
IBM researchers connected two 120-qubit superconducting processors in separate modules with four meter-scale "L-couplers". Quantum states crossed the links with 99.0% average fidelity, and two-qubit gates between the processors reached 94.75% on average, enough to create entanglement across both chips.
Why it matters
Linking processors is how IBM plans to grow beyond a single chip. Gates between modules are still much less accurate than gates inside one chip.
