IBM to link 462-qubit Flamingo processors into a 1,386-qubit system in 2024
Due 2024
IBM said that in 2024 it would introduce Flamingo, a 462-qubit processor with a built-in quantum communication link, and then demonstrate the design by linking at least three Flamingo chips into a 1,386-qubit system.

Outcome
Nov 13, 2024: IBM's December 2023 roadmap recast Flamingo as a test of chip-to-chip links ("l-couplers"). In November 2024 IBM showed such a link joining two Heron R2 chips by cables up to about a meter long, not the 462-qubit processor or the three-chip, 1,386-qubit system described in 2022.

IBM roadmap to quantum-centric supercomputers
“in 2024, we also plan to introduce our third approach: quantum communication between processors to support quantum parallelization. We will introduce the 462-qubit “Flamingo” processor with a built-in quantum communication link, and then release a demonstration of this architecture by linking together at least three Flamingo processors into a 1,386-qubit system.”
