Raussendorf and Briegel propose computing through quantum measurements
Oct 7, 2000
Robert Raussendorf and Hans Briegel propose a quantum computer that starts with a large entangled state. A sequence of measurements on individual qubits then carries out the computation, instead of a sequence of quantum logic gates.
Why it matters
The proposal establishes a different way to organize a quantum computer, later demonstrated with entangled photons.
