Researchers propose fast quantum gates between neutral atoms

Apr 7, 2000

Dieter Jaksch and colleagues propose two-qubit gates using interactions between neutral atoms excited to Rydberg states, in which an electron is far from the nucleus.

Why it matters

Strong interactions between excited atoms provide a way to make otherwise weakly interacting neutral atoms perform quantum logic.
