Researchers coherently control a superconducting flux qubit

Feb 13, 2003

Irinel Chiorescu and colleagues use microwave pulses to control a superconducting flux qubit, whose states correspond to currents flowing in opposite directions around a loop. They observe oscillations between the quantum states and measure their decay.

Why it matters

Coherent control of circulating-current states establishes another superconducting approach alongside charge-based qubits.
