Researchers demonstrate a two-qubit gate in diamond
Feb 12, 2004
Fedor Jelezko and colleagues implement a conditional two-qubit gate using an electron spin and a nearby carbon-13 nuclear spin associated with a nitrogen-vacancy defect in diamond.
Why it matters
A defect in diamond can support both controllable quantum bits and a logic operation between them, establishing a building block for spin-based processors.
