Researchers build a ten-qubit spin register around a defect in diamond
May 6, 2019
Conor Bradley and colleagues at QuTech demonstrate a ten-qubit register in diamond, combining one electron spin with nine nuclear spins. A single qubit retains quantum information for about a minute; entangled states of two qubits last over ten seconds.
Why it matters
Controlling several nuclear spins around one diamond defect expands the local quantum memory available for computation and future quantum-network nodes.
