Harvard and MIT use 51 atoms to simulate quantum matter

Nov 30, 2017

Harvard and MIT researchers arrange up to 51 individually trapped atoms and control their interactions with lasers. They use this programmable simulator to study changes in how groups of quantum particles organize and evolve.

Why it matters

Reconfigurable atom arrays bring quantum simulation to dozens of interacting particles, opening a route to studying more complex matter.
