Researchers construct quantum codes with scalable error protection

Nov 5, 2021

Pavel Panteleev and Gleb Kalachev construct quantum error-correcting codes whose number of protected qubits and resistance to errors both grow in proportion to their size. Each error check involves only a fixed number of qubits.

Why it matters

The proof resolves the qLDPC conjecture and shows that strong error protection need not require an ever-growing number of physical qubits per logical qubit.
