Researchers test a code that corrects every type of single-qubit error

Jan 7, 2001

Emanuel Knill and colleagues implement the five-qubit error-correcting code using nuclear magnetic resonance in a molecule. They test encoding, decoding and correction, verifying the response to each single-qubit error through process measurements.

Why it matters

The experiment extends early error-correction tests to a code that handles arbitrary single-qubit errors, while remaining a small NMR demonstration.
