IBM publishes a hardware roadmap aiming for a 1,000-qubit chip by 2023
Sep 15, 2020
IBM releases a public, dated roadmap for its quantum processors, with a 1,000-plus-qubit chip called Condor targeted for the end of 2023 and a stated course toward future processors with more than a million qubits.
Why it matters
It turned IBM's goals into dated targets that outsiders could check: a 433-qubit Osprey for 2022 and a 1,121-qubit Condor for 2023, both of which IBM later unveiled.
