Researchers coherently control a qubit made from two electron spins
Sep 1, 2005
Jason Petta and colleagues control a quantum bit encoded in two electron spins in a double quantum dot. Fast electrical pulses manipulate the spin states, while spin-echo sequences suppress dephasing, a loss of quantum coherence.
Why it matters
Electrical control of coupled spins adds a way to manipulate semiconductor qubits, complementing the ability to read individual spin states.
